BEAR CAMP

A safari-style tent camp with ‘a Canadian twist.’

Bear Camp invites you to experience nature the way you want it – as active or relaxed as you care to be.

Sheltered by the Pacific Coast Mountain Ranges, deep in the unspoiled raw wilderness of British Columbia, and protected by the vast terrain of the Tsilhqot’in (Chilcotin) First Nation People, lies Bear Camp. Forged out of Douglas Fir timbers and perched at the juncture of Chilko Lake and the Chilko River, it was originally built 1954 as a hunting & fishing camp, but has since been re-created into a funky, world-class adventure and wildlife-viewing destination.

OFF GRID AND

OUT THERE

IT’S ONLY NATURAL

Bear Camp is funky, not fancy, with everything you need and nothing you don’t!

Bear Camp invites you to experience nature the way you want it – as active or relaxed as you care to be. At camp, slip into indulgence with chef prepared meals, a selection of boutique wines, micro brewed beers, hot showers, flush toilets, yoga, massage, and even wi-fi (for those that need it). We even offer specialty trips featuring musicians or sommeliers, or clinics with photographers or authors.

Everyday brings new opportunities for adventure: hike, fish, kayak, SUP, raft or just chill—the choice is yours.

MEET THE LOCALS

During September and October, Bear Camp offers arguably the best bear viewing in Canada.

GET TO KNOW
OUR WILD SIDE

“Towering fir trees, dense pine forests, lush mosses and potable water make the Chilko like no other place on Earth.”

The crystal clear waters of Chilko Lake stretch 65kms along the deep dish of mountains that surround it, making it the largest alpine lake in Canada. The south end of the lake touches the immense Coast Mountain range and the river drains to the North into a broad lava plateau. The diverse area is hugely important as it is a transition area from the coast to the interior, and for that reason, it boasts a unique ecology that is found nowhere else in the province!

WAYS TO PLAY

Multi-Sport

Hike, bike, kayak, SUP, raft or simply relax around camp Some might say “the sky is the limit” but there’s even optional heli-hiking high up in the Potato Range!

Bear Viewing

During September and October join us for the best bear viewing opportunities in Canada. Stay in riverside safari-style tents perched high above the waters while grizzlies feed on salmon right in front of you.

Fishing

For the fly fisherman, the Chilko River is a world-class location where sockeye salmon and rainbow trout are found together forming one of Western Canada’s best fisheries. In order to preserve the river it has special status as protected “classified waters.”

Whitewater Rafting

The Chilko River offers some of the best whitewater rafting in the world including the legendary White Mile. Consider adding a 2-day rafting/kayaking extension to your stay at Bear Camp or join us for an 8-day expedition down to the mighty Fraser River.
