June 26 of 2014, the Tsilhqot’in National Government won title to over 440,000 hectares of its historical lands in a Supreme Court of Canada decision that has set new precedent in First Nations land claims.  After battling for more than two decades and stopping a host of industrialization plans, the TNG has finally seen justice served.

In the spring of 2016, the community erected a welcoming and historic gate on the road from Tatla Lake to Chilko Lake.  This simple but aesthetic gate symbolizes the beginning of a new era for these proud people and serves as a reminder to us all that dedication and hard work will persevere in the end.  Although the TNG are the new sheriff in town so to speak, we believe this understated and wide open gate beautifully reflects the welcoming nature of a gracious people.

One might say that we now have our own pearly gates.  I only hope heaven is half as nice as Chilcotin Country.
