Bear Camp is a safari-style tent camp with ‘a Canadian twist’

Sheltered by the Pacific Coast Mountain Ranges, deep in the unspoiled raw wilderness of British Columbia, and protected by the vast terrain of the Tsilhqot’in (Chilcotin) First Nation People, lies Bear Camp.   Forged out of Douglas Fir timbers and perched at the juncture of Chilko Lake and the Chilko River, it was originally built 1954 as a hunting & fishing camp, but has since been re-created into a funky, world-class adventure and wildlife-viewing destination.

Off the Grid

Here, nestled off-the-grid at the north end of Chilko Lake and the headwaters of the Chilko River, is our gateway to paradise: spacious safari tents are perched up on wildlife viewing platforms along the water’s edge. Your days here are flexible, with an incredible menu of activities, for any palate. Kayak the crystal clear waters of the lake, hike the stunning trails in the area, horseback ride to mountain peaks, fish a world-class waterway, watch the wildlife from every angle, or simply soak in the views and relax into a world that society left behind.

Bear Camp

Bear Camp invites you to experience nature the way you want it – as active or relaxed as you care to be.   At camp, slip into indulgence with chef prepared meals, a selection of boutique wines, micro brewed beers, hot showers, flush toilets, yoga, massage, and even wi-fi (for those that need it). We even offer specialty trips featuring musicians or sommeliers, or clinics with photographers or authors.

Bear Camp is funky, not fancy, with everything you need and nothing you don’t!

Hike, bike, kayak, fish, SUP, raft or just chill – the choice is yours.  Some might say “the sky is the limit” but there’s even optional heli-hiking into a spectacular outpost camp!

Bear Viewing

During September and October join us for the best grizzly viewing opportunities in Western Canada. Stay in riverside safari-style tents perched high above the waters while grizzlies feed on salmon right in front of you.

For the fly fisherman, the Chilko River is a world-class location where sockeye salmon and rainbow trout are found together forming one of Western Canada’s best fisheries.  In order to preserve the river it has special status as protected “classified waters.”

Retreats & Private Bookings

Bear Camp is the perfect place to host your family or corporate group. With eight safari tents for sixteen guests, delicious meals and tons to do, you can spend your time making real connections with people, and leave the details to us.
